Effective Listening Advanced Course

This 5 day residential course is led by experienced tutors. It builds on the skills learned in the Foundation Course by developing a broader and deeper understanding of effective listening for life, health and community.

The course provides the opportunity for participants to:

  • Reflect on their own life’s journey
  • Explore an understanding of the spiritual dimension of listening
  • Develop and practise listening skills
  • Explore the work of listening and balancing demands
  • Understand the importance of listening to the whole person
  • Understand the importance of listening to feelings in others and self
  • Discover the limits of competence and reflect on the importance Good Practice and signposting
  • Understand the importance of reflective practice
  • Reflect on the continuing listening journey
  • Reflect on the importance of mutual respect and encouragement for learning in a group setting.

As with the Effective Listening Foundation Course participants will be invited to draw on and share aspects of their own life’s experience within a safe and confidential environment. Listening in pairs and triads is an integral part of the learning.

At the end of the course, the listening skills of the participants will be assessed.

A certificate of achievement will also be awarded to participants on successful completion of the course.

Credit Rating

This course provides participants with the opportunity to gain 20 credits at SCQF Level 8 (Edinburgh Napier University) through successful completion of additional practical and written summative assessments.
